Challenge

New fibre introduced after mechanical damage.

The spectrometer body had a valid certificate, but the optical fibre was part of the radiometric chain. Replacing it changed throughput and spectral behaviour.

Why this matters

Calibration results are only useful when the measurand, instrument configuration and later application match. A valid certificate for the wrong configuration does not control measurement risk.

Technical approach

Review the previous certificate and current configuration.
Inspect optics, fibres, diffusers and interfaces.
Verify wavelength and agreed radiometric quantities.
Evaluate uncertainty for the requested configuration.
Document deviations and accessory identification.

Outcome and lesson

The complete configuration was recalibrated and the accessory identification was added to the documentation. The case shows why accessories should not be treated as interchangeable.
